KUALA LUMPUR: There were no surprises in the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) team line-up announcement for the Thomas and Uber Cup qualifiers scheduled to take place next month.

World No.2 Datuk Lee Chong Wei (pic) will lead the 10-man squad in their bid to make the top four cut at the Asia Team Badminton Championships in Alor Setar from Feb 6-11.

The other three men’s singles shuttlers selected were Lee Zii Jia, Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin and Soong Joo Ven.

Asian Junior champion Leong Jun Hao and two-time national champion Lim Chi Wing did not make the team.

Both were touted to be handed a surprise call-up.

The doubles challenge will be carried by Rio Olympics silver medallists Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong, Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin and Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

There was no place for independent shuttler Tan Boon Heong, who had earlier expressed his interest to beef up the team.

For the women’s Uber Cup team, the BAM named Sonia Cheah, Goh Jin Wei, Lim Yin Fun and S. Kisona for the four singles slots while the doubles pairings are made up of Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei, Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean and Goh Yea Ching-Yap Cheng Wen.
