LEE Chong Wei said he wants to return to the court as soon as his medical treatment is over.
In a video recording on the Yonex website in conjunction with its new racquet launch yesterday, Chong Wei said he hopes to meet up soon with other shuttlers, including China’s superstar, Lin Dan.
The video saw Chong Wei making a statement for the first time since withdrawing from the World Championships (July 30-Aug 5) in Nanjing, China as well as the Asian Games in Jakarta (Aug 19-28).
On Saturday, NSTP Sport reported that Chong Wei, 36, is facing a career-threatening health problem and he is now in Taiwan for treatment.
“Thank you, Lin Dan for attending this activity (Yonex racquet launch in Nanjing) for me and I hope you do well.
“I will return to the court to see you as soon as possible… I love you all,” said Chong Wei in the video.
Meanwhile, many of the world’s top shuttlers, including Lin Dan and World No 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark have sent messages of encouragement and support to three-time Olympic silver medallist Chong Wei,
Five-time world champion, Lin Dan, who is also Chong Wei’s long-time rival, said he values the special bond between them, on and off the court.
“I greatly appreciate my relationship with Chong Wei.
“From the first day to now, from single to being married and having our own families, we have a strong bond.
“I hope Chong Wei will get well soon and return to the court,” said Lin Dan.
Axelsen said: ‘I hope Chong Wei gets well soon and hopefully his medical treatment goes accordingly,” he said.
