STAND united and spread peace. That was the message delivered by the Subang Jaya Zone 3 Residents’ Committee (JKP Zone 3) as they handed out 300 roses to morning market goers at USJ Taipan, yesterday.
Some market goers were surprised, but the gesture put smiles on their faces and some also responded positively to the members’ call for residents to stay together.
The move was to promote peace following tensions at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in USJ 25.
About 20 people from the committee, made up of members from different residents association from USJ 2 to 15, were joined by representatives from IPD Subang Jaya and Subang Jaya fire department.
Red and pink roses were also handed out to traders, men and women.
USJ 11/3 residents association and Rukun Tetangga chairman Singam Muniandy said they planned the event the night before and it was simply to show unity among all races.
“We want to show the unity among all races. We just want people to be together and stay united,” he said.
He said police and firemen were invited to join the initiative to show that they care, and want peace and unity in the community.
Singam said there were a lot of negative news being shared and advised the public not to forward unverified news and to seek clarification first.
USJ 12 residents association chairman Datuk Nor Azman Abdul Rahman said throughout the ordeal last week, the committee was doing its best to support the officers and provided food for them.
IPD Subang Jaya crime prevention and community safety department head Tan Nam Seng said the event was to engage with the community and spread unity against unwanted speculation that could create an unstable society.
